How Optum Is Improving Patient Safety and Outcomes

EPS has many safety features built into the application. At data entry, validations are performed against the eScript to ensure products selected do not differ from products prescribed. At fill, product scanning is performed to ensure the right product is utilized to fulfill the prescription. At pharmacist verification, drug utilization review is performed with additional data check steps that are surfaced one at a time to allow visual verification of patient, doctor, drug, directions, days’ supply, and quantity entry followed by a separate workflow to ensure product dispensing accuracy. At will-call, additional scanning provisions and system integrations are enabled to ensure the right patient verification to prevent dispensing of product to the wrong patient.

CONVERGE RX CLINICAL is our clinical-based solution that integrates with EPS. It helps identify many opportunities to better patient outcomes with medication alignment services, gaps in care identification, MTM opportunities, and other pharmacy-derived custom edits to advance adherence and immunization opportunities.

Optum Products and Services That Help Pharmacies Increase Revenue Opportunities and Profitability

EPS and Converge Rx Clinical work in tandem to identify gaps in care, including immunization opportunities, as well as MTM opportunities to drive profitability. These opportunities can be MTM vendor based or customized to the pharmacy organization or pharma funded opportunity. RxAssist is a network solution that works to help with the affordability of medications and decrease prescription abandonment. This solution enables pharmacies to partner with pharma to offer lower out-of-pocket costs to the end patient when being prescribed sponsored medications.

The Strategic Needs for Pharmacy Technology in the Next Three to Five Years

Our existing solutions address the issues most concerning the pharmacy profession. We address how pharmacists can monetize their growth as a provider of clinical services, bill for services, grow in specialty pharmacy, reduce cost to fill, automate workflow processes, automate reporting, safe guard precious gross margins, leverage end-to-end solutions to bundle services to aid pharmacy profitability, and drive overall efficiency throughout pharmacy.

Optum continues to find ways to leverage new technologies to improve stability, scalability, and productivity for pharmacies. This is especially true with all responsible uses of AI. We continue to identify ways to better understand, react, and enable services to support the needs of our customers as they service their patients’ needs. For us, it’s about putting the right tools in the hands of the care providers to help them do their job more efficiently so the patient can be the recipient of quality service and care.
