Pharmacy owners and IT (information technology) managers are familiar with pharmacy services delivered as a software-as-a-service, but now there is a move among pharmacy management vendors to the cloud. Ketan Mehta, CEO of PrimeRx, explains how pharmacy IT can make the move to the cloud, giving pharmacists the ability to have a cutting-edge management system, but without the IT headaches.
Pharmacy is familiar with traditional IT, where hardware, software, and servers are purchased, installed, and managed on-site. Software-as-a-service (SaaS) has been in the industry for years, and is now referred to as the cloud. According to the “Explainers” section on IBM’s website, it’s how “IT assets are consumed.” With cloud computing, the “service provider owns, manages, and maintains the assets; the customer consumes them via an Internet connection, and pays for them on a subscription or pay-as-you-go basis.”
