AI Smart Health Mirrors: What Are the Potential Implications?

Previously in this space, I described how it is common for consumer electronics companies to develop technologies for personal use, and those technologies find their way into the healthcare space — smartwatches are a great example. For this reason, the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is a great place to identify technologies that may potentially find their way into pharmacy and healthcare. At CES 2025, several companies debuted emerging consumer technologies that fit this mold. Those technologies include artificial intelligence (AI) smart health mirrors. For some companies, the mirrors are in still in the conceptual phase.

The Rise of AI Smart Health Mirrors

The idea of smart mirrors is not entirely new. Initially developed to display information like weather updates and news in consumer settings, the addition of AI and health-monitoring capabilities has created the potential for new health-related applications for these devices. Generally speaking, AI smart health mirrors are equipped with sensors and AI-enabled analytics and algorithms. These built-in functions allow the mirror to analyze facial features and skin tone, and to assess vital signs such as heart rate, oxygen saturation, and even stress levels. Some manufacturers claim their mirrors provide more than 100 health parameters, even mental health assessments.
